Advantage II for Cats is available over the counter. No prescription is required to purchase this product. Advantage II for Cats is used in the treatment of adult fleas and flea eggs and larvae. The main ingredient is imidacloprid, a topical solution that collects in the oils of the skin and in the hair follicles. Imidacloprid is not absorbed into the body and does not circulate through the bloodstream. It is spread around the body through the process of translocation. Advantage II for Cats also contains an insect growth regulator known as pyriproxyfen. Pyriproxyfen prevents eggs from hatching. These ingredients help control flea infestation by acting on insects' central nervous system. Advantage II for Cats kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours. Effects last for up to 30 days. This product is also waterproof. It is available in 4 and 6 month packs according to your cat's size:

  • 1-5lbs (teal box)
  • 5-9lbs (orange box)
  • Over 9lbs (purple box)

For:

Cats (8+ weeks of age, weighing 2+ lbs)
Ferrets (10+ weeks of age, weighing 1+ lbs)

Benefits:

  • Convenient, once-a-month application
  • Kills through contact - fleas don't have to bite to die
  • Kills fleas within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs
  • Kills fleas within 24 hours of application on ferrets
  • Kills all flea life stages including flea eggs and larvae to prevent infestation
  • Safe and easy to apply
  • Waterproof - remains effective even if pet gets wet (use of a soap-free shampoo is recommended)

How it works:

The first active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Within 12 hours of application on cats and dogs, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. Advantage II Small Cat kills the existing fleas on ferrets within 24 hours. The second active ingredient, pyriproxyfen, is an insect growth regulator. Once a female flea lays her eggs, pyriproxyfen works to prevent the eggs from hatching, ending the flea life cycle. Also, the active ingredient in Advantage II kills through contact, which means that fleas don't have to bite your pet to die. Reinfesting fleas are killed with protection against further flea infestation lasting for up to 4 weeks. Pre-existing pupae in the environment may continue to emerge for 6 weeks or longer depending upon the climactic conditions.

Storage:

Should be stored at room temperature. Keep away from other pets and children.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

How to Open

1. Being careful not to cut close to the blister cavities, take scissors and cut off one section of the card containing a single tube.

2. Take the separated section, and cut into the blister cavity across the small side, close to the cap of the tube.

3. Peel off the foil, and take out the tube.

4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each tube.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Use only on dogs. Do not use on other animals.

2. Remove one applicator tube from the package.

3. Hold applicator tube in an upright position. Pull cap off tube.

4. Turn the cap around and place other end of cap back on tube.

5. Twist cap to break seal, then remove cap from tube.

6. The dog should be standing for easy application. Apply the entire contents of the tube evenly to three or four spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the hair until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube on the skin and gently squeeze to expel a portion of the solution on the skin. Do not apply an excessive amount of solution at any one spot that could cause some of the solution to run off the side of the dog.

Do not get this product in your pet's eyes or mouth.

7. Discard empty tube as described in Storage and Disposal.

8. Under normal conditions the product is effective for a month. However, in case of severe flea infestation, retreatment may be necessary earlier than four weeks. Do not retreat more often than once every seven (7) days. After flea control is obtained, return to a monthly retreatment schedule.
