Vetprofen is a generic equivalent for Rimadyl (carprofen). Vetprofen, or carprofen, treats pain and inflammation due to chronic arthritis, limping, lameness, decreased activity or exercise, stiffness, decreased movement of joints, and pain following surgery. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is related to aspirin and ibuprofen. Like other NSAIDs, this medication works by inhibiting the formation of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are chemicals in the body that promote inflammation, pain, and fever.

  • The recommended dosage for oral administration to dogs is 2 mg/lb of body weight daily. However, Vetprofen should be given only as prescribed by your veterinarian.
  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response.
  • Vetprofen can be given as a single full dose once a day or divided in half and given twice a day.
  • Vetprofen is for dogs only. Do not give to cats.
  • Vetprofen are scored and dosage should be calculated in half-tablet increments. Tablets can be halved by placing the tablet on a hard surface and pressing down on both sides of the score.
  • Vetprofen may be offered to your dog by hand or placed on food. If your dog does not willingly consume the tablets, they may be hand-administered (pilled) as with other oral tablets.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that your dog consumes the complete dose.
