Product Info:

Enalapril is used to treat and prevent heart failure and high blood pressure. It decreases the formation of compounds and hormones that constrict blood vessels in animals with heart and vascular disease. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-inhibitors). ACE-inhibitors are classified as vasodilators because of their relaxing effect on blood vessels. ACE-inhibitors also reduce concentrations of harmful chemicals and hormones that injure the heart muscle in animals with heart failure.

Dogs and Cats

  • Helps the heart beat more efficiently
  • Prevents fluid buildup in the lungs
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Improves ability to tolerate exercise

How it works:

Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by blocking an enzyme in the body that is needed to produce a substance that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, the blood vessels relax. This lowers blood pressure and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

Store in a cool dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.

Allow plenty of water for the pet to drink. Enalapril may be given with or without food. Periodic liver and kidney function testing may be required by your veterinarian.
  • Enalapril is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is FDA approved for use in dogs only, however it is a commonly accepted practice for veterinarians to prescribe enalapril for cats as well.
  • Enalapril is used to treat mild, moderate, or severe heart failure and high blood pressure and is usually used in combination with other medications.
  • Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or if you plan on breeding your pet. Enalapril could cause birth defects.
Pet Weight Dosage

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to enalapril. Notify your veterinarian if your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to this medication or any other ACE-inhibitor, such as benazepril, captopril, and lisinopril. This drug may relax blood vessels, causing animals to become weak due to low pressure. It may interact with some other medications. Inform your veterinarian of any and all medications your pet may be taking, especially furosemide tablets (Lasix), spironolactone, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating. In the case of a missed dose, give it as soon as you remember or wait until it is time to give the next dose. Do not give a double dose of the medication.
