Cephalexin is available by prescription only. Cephalexin is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic used to fight bacterial infections all over the body, including upper respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, urinary tract infections, or infections found in the bones and joints. Cephalexin works against bacteria by inhibiting the growth of the bacterial cell wall.

How it works:

Cephalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic. Cephalosporin antibiotics suppress the growth of micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoa.

Cautions:

Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use in animals with known allergies to penicillin or cephalosporins. Cephalexin may interact with some other medications. Notify your veterinarian if your animal is taking other medications, especially probenecid, furosemide, or warfarin. Use with caution if your pet suffers from kidney disease or intestinal disease. Use with caution if your pet is pregnant or lactating. Cephalexin oral suspension contains sugar and may affect animals with diabetes. Store at room temperature. Side Effects:

Allergic reactions are rare, but in the case of an allergic reaction, seek immediate veterinary attention. Some common signs of allergic reactions are severe vomiting, severe diarrhea, blood or mucous in stool, hives, or swelling on or around the face. Do not give cephalexin to any animal that has a known allergy to penicillins and/or cephalosporins. Notify your veterinarian if your pet has diabetes, as cephalexin oral suspension has sugar and may affect your pet’s blood sugar levels.
