Albon is a sulfadimethoxine that effectively treats a wide range of bacterial infections, including coccidial infections, tonsillitis, pustular dermatitis, pharyngitis, anal gland infections, bronchitis, abscesses, pneumonia, cystitis, bacterial enteritis, canine salmonellosis, and metritis pyometra. It is also effective in fighting bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Proteus, and Shigella organisms sensitive to sulfadimethoxine. Sulfonamide is the primary fighting agent in this medication. Sulfonamide fights off bacteria by interfering with its ability to reproduce.

  • Albon tablets are also used in the treatment of bacterial enteritis caused by coccidial infection.
  • Do not give Albon to pets allergic to it or other sulfa (sulfonamide) drugs.
Weight range (lbs) Dosage
All weights Give an initial dose of 25 mg/lb of pet's body weight, then subsequent daily doses of 12.5 mg/lb of pet's body weight.
It's important for your pet to drink plenty of water. This medication should not be used in pregnant or nursing pets and should not be used in pets with liver or kidney disease.

Cautions

For pet use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Close securely after use. This product is intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only.

Possible side effects:

Sulfa crystals may appear in your pet's urine. Your pet should be allowed to drink plenty of water while taking this medication. Other side effects that may occur include KCS or dry eye, anemia, fever, loss of appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, joint inflammation, kidney damage, and skin rash. Stop the medication and contact your veterinarian if any of the above symptoms occur. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet. Signs of an allergic reaction may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, or coma. If these signs occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.
